What is in-game photography? In-Game Photography (also known as Video Game Photography, Screenshot Photography, Screenshot Art, or Virtual Photography) is a new media art form which consists of photographing video game characters and/or environments residing in a virtual world. While it’s origin is debatable, the art form (along with it’s various names) came to prominence around 2010 - 2011 as a budding community formed around Duncan Harris and his project DeadEndThrills. The earliest known work within the art form is Eva and Franco Mattes’ Thirteen Most Beautiful Avatars. Their work was exhibited in a virtual art gallery in 2006 within the video game Second Life. The crew at Vision Ultravioleta of Madrid, Spain wanted to do a virtual photography exhibition and reached out to multiple individuals within the VP scene. They launched their exhibition October 24th, 2020 and has been received very well by the press and public at large. The exhibition will be live until December 12th, 2020. I have had the honor of displaying some of my shots from Battlefield 1, Battlefield 3, Battlefield 5, Assassin's Creed: Origins, and Red Dead Redemption 2 in this exhibition next to my VP peers, Gregorio Alayón, Jerome Godichon, Iker Maidagan, Lana Melodi. Thank you to Cristina García Moreno, Barbara Bellón Lara, and Jerome Sebastien Godichon of Vision Ultravioleta for this opportunity! EVE Online 2020 Revisit is live! Wow what an improvement this game has experienced graphically since 2012. The lighting, the ships, the stations ( especially the new Jita Station ), and the stargates - all so beautiful. I hope to really dive deeper in a future revisit and capture a better perspective of how everything has changed.
